Intro
If someone’s ever offered to share something with you or someone has ever offered to help you with something out of kindness, that’s called selflessness. It feels great when someone shows selflessness towards you, but in my opinion, it feels even grander to show selflessness. I also believe it’s a simple concept and an easy change in your life.
Definition
Definition: Concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own.
Example
Lunch time at school is over and everyone quickly bolts out of the cafeteria, except you. You notice that one of the tables left behind an incredibly large mess and the janitor is visibly frustrated and exhausted. You stop, walk over and start cleaning up the trash left behind. The janitor expresses their gratitude, and you also thank them for the unrecognized work that she does. You don’t expect any recognition or credit for helping someone else. That’s called selflessness.
Benefits
I realized that helping other people take weight off their plates even if your plate has a ton of weight has a greater reward than one that can be given. If you can do a small, kind act that will benefit someone else’s needs, you will give others the reminder that there is still hope in this chaotic world. You don’t have to give someone money if you don't have or help someone cheat because they're about to fail, but consider the circumstances and act on that.
Change
Throughout the days, identify situations where something can be done to benefit the needs or wishes of others. Do your absolute best to be of great service, and expect no reward in return. It doesn’t have to be a big deed, but do what you can and what you know is needed. Note how those showing kindness in those situations makes you feel.
